The European Wood Policy Platform (WoodPoP) has published a policy brief with recommendations for the next Horizon Europe programme 2028-2034 (FP10), calling for a stronger consideration of wood science, technology, and innovation across all pillars. Through dedicated investment and support of research, innovation and education, Europe can position its forest-based industries as global leaders in sustainability and competitiveness, which will strengthen the circular bioeconomy, and position wood at the core of resilient value chains and low-carbon construction.

The European Wood Policy Platform (WoodPoP) High-Level Meeting gathered leaders from across Europe, spotlighting the wood sector as a frontrunner in Europe’s competitive transition. The Wood4Bauhaus Alliance reaffirms the central role of the wood sector in driving Europe’s transformation and applauds the European Commission’s intention to develop a European Strategy for Housing Construction as part of the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan, a vital step to alleviate the housing affordability crisis.

Final Policy Recommendations & Research Needs by BASAJAUN

The BASAJAUN project, focusing on sustainable wood construction for rural development and urban transformation, was recently finalized. Between 2019 and 2024, BASAJAUN was implemented through a consortium of 31 organizations in 12 countries, with a total budget of €12 million financed by the European Commission. The project was coordinated by Tecnalia in Spain.
