FAO Brussels Briefing: ‘Strengthening the forest-based bioeconomy’

Hosted by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU, the FAO Liaison office with the European Union and Belgium, and FAO’s Forestry Division, this event showcased how innovation within the forest-based sector can help develop high-value products and address many of today’s challenges.
The event addressed the leading initiatives that promote using wood in construction to significantly reduce carbon emissions and create job opportunities, especially in rural areas. Furthermore, the European Commission’s bioeconomy strategy and action plan and its importance in achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal were highlighted.
