The Woodrise 2022 Congress was held from Oct 6-9, 2022 in Portoroz, Slovenia, presenting a rich programme and line-up of international speakers in the field of mid to high-rise timber buildings. The congress, hosted by W4B member InnoRenew CoE, welcomed over 200 participants from all over the world in Slovenia and was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor. The main opening keynote was given by Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, founding father of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research and mastermind behind the New European Bauhaus movement. He gave an engaging talk about the potential of timber construction to store vast volumes of carbon in the built environment, which can indeed be seen as the “silver bullet” to reverse global warming and restore the climate. The next International Woodrise Congress will take place from 17 to 20 October 2023 in Bordeaux, France.
